This class celebrates the Golden Age of Musical Theater. Students will develop vocal skills, learn basic dance technique, create characters, and build an acting method. Class features songs from Golden Age Musicals such as The Music Man, Annie Get Your Gun, My Fair Lady, and more! Students perform an end of session Showcase on the last day of class for families and friends!


JTF: Beauty and the Beast Jr.

7th Grade-12th Grade

This class if for our audition-only JTF performance troupe. This class will prepare and participate in the Junior Theater Festival sponsored by iTheatrics from January 12-14, 2018 (MLK weekend) at the Cobb Galleria.

Auditions will be held the evening of Tuesday, August 8th in Johns Creek (location to be confirmed). Please email Anna Kilbride for an audition slot: akilbride@cytatlanta.com.  Students should prepare a one-minute musical theater song for the audition with an MP3 or MP4 karaoke track on an electronic device. Please have the song downloaded as we cannot guarantee wifi.

This class will meet for Auditions on August 8th with subsequent classes on:

September 5,12,19,26
October 3,10,17
November 7,14,28, with SHOWCASE for families and friends at Mount Pisgah UMC on Nov. 30th.

Additional rehearsals may be called prior to departure for event on January 12th.

Students will meet at BCA Parking Lot on Friday, January 12th to carpool with chaperones to event in Atlanta.  Time will be released as soon as JTF assigns our check in time for that day.  We estimate leaving around noon that day.  Students will participate in events January 12-14 and will return with chaperones to BCA Parking Lot late Sunday evening after the closing event.

There are three non-refundable fees that will be collected for this event.

  • Class registration fee of $275 that will cover all material, training, and rehearsal space due August 10th, 2017
  • JTF participation fee of $225 due Aug 15th, 2017
  • Production Expense that will cover cast photo for JTF program, licensing to MTI for permission to perform Beauty and the Beast Jr, Group registration fee, hotel expense, troupe t-shirt, and additional overhead expenses of approximately $275 due Sept. 15th, 2017. Price may adjust slightly once we have hotel assignment by JTF.
  • Additional spending money for snacks, meals, and souvenirs at the time of the event

(Chaperones are welcome and are required to pay the JTF participation fee of $225 by August 15, 2017 and are required to stay at the assigned hotel with the students and are responsible for their portion of the hotel expense, parking, meals, and t-shirt. Payments must be made by timeline provided and unfortunately, no refunds are available as we will not be able to get refunds from iTheatrics.)

The iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta is held at The Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, January 12-14, 2018.  Students will participate in one 15-minute performance for adjudication.  Events include: Adjudications, Workshops, New Works Showcase, Awards Ceremonies and the largest collection of musical theater lovers under one roof.  Held annually in Atlanta, GA and Sacramento, CA, JTF has become a must attend musical theater event and previously hosted the launch for Disney’s High School Musical and NBC’s SMASH.  The festival has welcomed guests such as Disney Theatrical Productions President, Thomas Schumacher, musical theater writers such as Alan Menken (music composer for Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast to name a few), Jeanine Tesori (5 Broadway musicals and 5 Tony Award nominations), Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (known together as Pasek and Paul, song writing duo and composing team for Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land, and more!), Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Tony Award for Ragtime, Academy Awards and Golden Globe nominees for animated film Anastasia and more), Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray and more), Martin Charnin (best known work is as conceiver, director and lyricist of the musical Annie), Charles Strouse (Bye Bye Birdie, Annie), actors like Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect, Spring Awakening), Briga Heelan (Cougar Town, Ground Floor and more), Christian Borle (Tony Award winner for roles in Peter and the Starcatcher and Something Rotten, roles in Legally Blonde and SMASH), Brian D’Arcy James (Shrek the Musical, Hamilton, Next to Normal and more), Zac Efron (High School Musical, Hairspray, 17 Again, and more), Megan Hilty (Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked on Broadway), Corey Cott (Newsies, Bandstand), Shoshana Bean (best known for her role as Elphaba in Wicked), Darren Criss (Blaine Anderson on Glee, Broadway’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Ryann Redmond (Bring It On the Musical, If/Then), Arielle Jacobs (Aladdin, In the Heights, Wicked, and more), Cory Lingner (An American in Paris, On the Town), Curt Hansen (People You May Know) and many more. You never know who will show up!  Since its inception in 2003, JTF has grown from 650 people in attendance to over 6,000 attendees. Last year JTF Atlanta was attended by students from 29 states, South Korea, New Zealand and Australia and this opportunity is in our backyard. It is a weekend of true musical theater madness that is not to be missed!

CYT@school is devoted to introducing performing arts to children, one school at a time, by providing a high-quality experience that is educational and enjoyable. Our program consists of 10 weeks of drama, voice, and dance which offer sound theater art instruction while also building character. All participating students will perform in an end-of-session showcase featuring a shortened script of Aladdin with all your favorite songs.

Nurture you child’s creativity as they experience new characters in a story every week in this exciting new class. Students will explore storytelling by reading then performing a classic story in a variety of fashions.  Students may act out the story one week, while the next week they express the story through dance. This class utilizes the student’s imagination, develops motor skills, and promotes expressive performance.  It is a perfect introduction for the blossoming performer.

Composing team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have been taking the entertainment industry by storm. Some of their shows include the break-out hit Dear Evan Hansen, Oscar-winning movie La La Land, A Christmas Story, and James and the Giant Peach.  Utilizing their songs, students will learn advanced musical theatre skills like character development, basic Stanislavski method, vocal technique, and more. The session will culminate in a Showcase on the last day of class for families and friends!


ONLINE CLASS OPTION FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT ATTEND A CLASS:

Class Fee $275

This class is ONLY for the student who cannot attend a Tuesday or Thursday class, ages 8-18, who would like to audition for our fall production of Junie B. Jones the Musical.  Much more is gained through our classroom program and this class will not replace training in music, dance, or performance.  It is a national requirement that only students enrolled in our class program (our Tuesday and Thursday classes for this area) are eligible to audition for our production.  This option is only to satisfy that requirement for students who cannot attend on a Tuesday or Thursday.

Online Critic’s Corner Class will consist of class materials sent to the student in one email that the student may review on his/her own time.  No material will be collected or reviewed. Students in this class will have the opportunity to attend a local theatrical production to observe the elements of theater taught in the material to increase their awareness of director’s influence, and technical elements, and theater etiquette introduced in them material.

This class has the option to attend The King and I at The Fox Theater in Atlanta on September 30th, 2017 at 8:00 pm. Limited seats are available.  If interest in this class is great and we exceed the of tickets we have on hold, a replacement will be made. Students will receive one complimentary ticket to the performance and must provide their own transportation and must be accompanied by one guardian. Price of guardian ticket is $130. Please contact info@cyatlanta.com as soon as you register for this class if you would like to arrange for your tickets.  This is a first come, first serve basis for available tickets to The King and I.


Refund Policy:

Students who audition for our fall production of Junie B. Jones the Musical are not eligible for a class refund. If students would like to switch to another class, they may do so for a $25 administrative fee, if space is available. Students who do NOT audition and are not able to complete the class, may be refunded as follows –

There are no refunds for the JTF class and student is obligated to pay all fees if selected to be part of the troupe.

For Tuesday Act One class at BCA and Thursday classes at MPUMC:

No refunds if student has auditioned for Junie B. Jones the Musical, but student may switch to another class if space is available for a $25 administrative fee.

Full refund, less $25 administrative fee if class is dropped by August 1, 2017.

50% refund if class is dropped by August 8th, 2017.

Class refund of $15 per remaining class if class is dropped by August 22nd, 2017.

No refunds after August 22nd, 2017.

For Wednesday Class for CYT@School program:

Full refund, less $25 administrative fee if class is dropped by August 30th, 2017.

50% refund if class is dropped by September 4th, 2017.

Class refund of $15 per remaining class if class is dropped by September 18th, 2017.

No refunds after September 18th, 2017.

For the Our Gang Class at MPUMC:

Full refund, less $25 administrative fee if class is dropped by September 1st, 2017.

Pro-rated refund for remaining classes, less a $25 administrative fee if class is dropped between September 2nd-21st, 2017.

No refunds after September 21st, 2017.
